Branta dickeyi Chick
Branta dickeyi (chick)
This downy chick stays close to wetlands and grassy shorelines, moving quickly through cover and shallow water. It feeds on tender grasses, aquatic plants, and small invertebrates it can peck from the ground. Unlike the imposing adult, it relies on agility and concealment rather than strength. Its soft juvenile plumage provides insulation during cool, exposed early life.
