Golden-crowned Sparrow
Zonotrichia atricapilla

Golden-crowned Sparrows breed in brushy tundra, mountain meadows, and northern coniferous edges, then winter farther south along the Pacific coast. They forage mainly on the ground for seeds, berries, buds, and insects. Adults give clear whistled calls and defend feeding or breeding areas with displays and short chases. Their yellow crown patch is usually brightest during the breeding season.
