Sanderling
Calidris alba

Sanderlings breed on Arctic tundra, then migrate to sandy coasts around much of the world. They race along the surf line, probing wet sand for tiny crustaceans, molluscs, and insects. When waves rush in, they scurry away on quick legs before returning to feed. Their pale winter plumage gives them the familiar appearance of small white birds chasing the tide.
