Mountain Whitefish
Prosopium williamsoni
Adult mountain whitefish live in cold, clear rivers and lakes across western North America, often cruising over gravelly bottoms. They feed mainly on aquatic insect larvae, snails, crustaceans, and other small bottom-dwelling prey. During spawning season, adults move into flowing water and deposit eggs in gravel without building a nest.
