Common Frog
Rana temporaria

Adult common frogs live around ponds during breeding season but spend much of the year in damp meadows, woodland floors, hedgerows, and gardens. They hunt slugs, worms, spiders, flies, and other small invertebrates by waiting quietly and lunging at close range. Their mottled brown, olive, or reddish skin helps them blend into wet vegetation and leaf litter. In cold regions they survive winter by hibernating in mud, compost, or sheltered ground cavities.
