Sarus Crane
Antigone antigone
The adult Sarus Crane lives in wetlands, marshes, flooded farmland, and open grasslands across parts of South Asia, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia. It feeds omnivorously on aquatic plants, grains, tubers, insects, frogs, and other small animals, often walking slowly through shallow water. Adults are famous for loud trumpeting calls, pair dances, and strong lifelong pair bonds. Standing over 1.5 meters tall, it is the tallest flying bird in the world.
