Common Nightingale
Luscinia megarhynchos

The adult Common Nightingale is a secretive brown songbird of dense scrub, woodland edges, hedgerows, and thickets, often staying hidden close to the ground. It feeds mainly on insects, worms, spiders, and other small invertebrates, with some berries taken outside the breeding season. Males are famous for their rich, powerful song, delivered by day and often at night to defend territory and attract mates. Despite its plain plumage, its voice is one of the most celebrated in European and western Asian birdlife.
