Ferruginous Hawk Hatchling
Buteo regalis (hatchling)

A downy nestling of open grasslands, shrublands, and prairie edges, usually raised in a large stick nest on a tree, cliff, utility structure, or even the ground. It cannot yet hunt or fly, relying on adults to bring pieces of small mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. The chick spends much of its time resting, begging, and growing flight feathers. Its pale fluff helps insulate it through the exposed weather of prairie nesting sites.
