Black Woodpecker Fledgling
Dryocopus martius (fledgling)

A fledgling has left the nest cavity but still keeps close to forest trunks and nearby branches. It makes short, uncertain flights and clings to bark while learning to forage. Its diet is still partly supplied by parents, though it begins probing wood and bark for ants and insect larvae. A notable fact is that fledglings can already use the stiff tail and strong feet that woodpeckers rely on for climbing vertical trunks.
