Small Tortoiseshell Chrysalis
Aglais urticae (chrysalis)

A suspended pupa attached to a stem, wall, or nettle patch by a silk pad. It does not feed, instead reorganizing the larval body into the adult butterfly. The angular casing is usually mottled brown, grey, or golden, helping it blend with dry vegetation and bark. When disturbed, it can twitch sharply to deter small attackers.
