Long-tailed Parakeet Hatchling
Psittacula longicauda (hatchling)

Newly hatched long-tailed parakeets remain hidden inside tree cavities in lowland forest, swamp forest, or mangrove-edge habitat. They are naked to lightly downy at first and depend entirely on their parents for warmth and regurgitated food. Their main behaviours are begging calls, crouching low in the nest, and pecking weakly as the beak develops. A notable fact is that this protected cavity-nesting stage keeps the chick out of sight while its flight feathers and long tail begin to grow.
