Muskrat Kit
Ondatra zibethicus (kit)

A muskrat kit is born in a grass-lined lodge or bank burrow in a marsh, pond, or slow stream. It begins life small and dependent, feeding on milk before nibbling soft aquatic plants as it grows. Young kits stay close to the den entrance and rely on cover, shallow water, and quick retreats to avoid predators. A notable fact is that they can mature quickly enough for several litters to be raised in one warm season.
