Oriental Scops Owl Hatchling
Otus sunia (hatchling)

A newly hatched Oriental Scops Owl is a downy, nest-bound chick sheltered in tree cavities, old woodpecker holes, or similar hidden sites. It cannot fly and depends on its parents for insects and small vertebrate prey torn into manageable pieces. Its main behaviours are begging calls, crouching low, and fluffing up when disturbed. Like many owl chicks, it begins developing strong feet and a hooked beak well before it is ready to leave the nest.
