Common Raccoon Kit
Procyon lotor (kit)

Young common raccoon kits stay close to the den in tree cavities, hollow logs, attics, or burrows borrowed from other animals. They nurse at first, then begin sampling soft fruits, insects, eggs, and scraps brought or exposed by the mother. Kits practice climbing, pawing, and short defensive hisses while their coordination develops. A notable trait is their early use of sensitive front paws, which help them explore objects even before they are skilled foragers.
