Redhead
Aythya americana

Adult Redheads are diving ducks of prairie potholes, marshes, large lakes, and coastal wintering waters. They feed mainly on aquatic plants such as pondweeds and wild celery, along with mollusks and other invertebrates. Males are known for the rounded reddish head and blue-gray bill, while females are warm brown and more cryptic. A notable trait is frequent brood parasitism, with females often laying eggs in the nests of other ducks.
