Eastern Tent Caterpillar
Malacosoma americana
The adult moth is a short-lived flying stage found around woodland edges, orchards, and lights near host trees. It does not have the leaf-feeding habits of the larva and focuses mainly on mating and egg-laying. Females place egg masses on twigs, where the next generation overwinters before hatching in spring. Adults are tan to reddish-brown with pale bands across the forewings.
