Brown Rat Juvenile
Rattus norvegicus (juvenile)

Juvenile brown rats leave the nest to explore runways, drains, rubbish areas, fields, and building edges close to cover. They sample seeds, grain, fruit, invertebrates, carrion, and human food scraps while learning safe routes from shelter to feeding sites. Young rats are especially quick to flee into holes or dense clutter when startled. A notable fact is that they become independent within weeks and can mature very rapidly when food is abundant.
