Broad-bodied Chaser
Libellula depressa
The adult is a broad, fast-flying dragonfly often seen patrolling ponds, ditches, and sunny wetland edges. It hunts flying insects on the wing, turning sharply to intercept prey and often returning to a favored perch. Males defend territories over water, while females visit briefly to lay eggs by dipping the abdomen to the surface. Its unusually broad flattened abdomen makes it easy to recognize among many other dragonflies.
