Superb Lyrebird
Menura novaehollandiae
The adult Superb Lyrebird lives in moist forests and ferny gullies of southeastern Australia, spending most of its time on the ground. It feeds by powerfully scratching through leaf litter for insects, spiders, centipedes, worms, and other small invertebrates. Males are famous for elaborate display dances and astonishing mimicry of other birds and environmental sounds. Despite having wings, it usually escapes by running and only makes short flights to roost or cross obstacles.
