Collared Scops Owl Fledgling
Otus lettia (fledgling)

A Collared Scops Owl fledgling has left the nest but still stays close to cover, clambering among branches and making short, awkward flights at night. It continues to beg for food while practicing the pounces and foot-grabs it will later use on insects, geckos, frogs, and small mammals. Its mottled brown-grey feathers help it vanish against bark during the day. This stage is especially vulnerable, so freezing in place and fluttering to nearby cover are key survival behaviours.
