Common Green Darner Nymph
Anax junius (nymph)

This aquatic stage lives among submerged plants in ponds, marshes, lakes, and slow streams. It is an ambush predator, feeding on mosquito larvae, small aquatic insects, tadpoles, and even tiny fish. The nymph hides in vegetation or detritus, then shoots out an extendable lower lip to seize prey. Before adulthood, it can propel itself with a sudden jet of water expelled from the body.
