North American Beaver Yearling
Castor canadensis (yearling)

North American beaver yearlings are larger juveniles that still live around the family lodge, helping maintain dams, food caches, and scent-marked territory. They feed on bark, twigs, cambium, pond plants, and herbaceous vegetation, especially near streams, ponds, and wetlands. Yearlings are stronger swimmers than kits and begin practicing the gnawing, dragging, and repair work used by adults. A notable fact is that yearlings usually remain with their parents for another season before dispersing to find suitable water of their own.
