Eastern Cottontail Kit
Sylvilagus floridanus (kit)

Newborn Eastern cottontail kits spend their first days hidden in a shallow, fur-lined nest tucked into grass or leaf litter. They are fed rich milk during brief visits from the mother, then begin nibbling tender plants as they grow. Their best defense is remaining still and scent-hidden while the adult stays away to avoid drawing predators. A notable fact is that young cottontails develop quickly and may leave the nest after only a few weeks.
