White-throated Kingfisher Fledgling
Halcyon smyrnensis (fledgling)

A young bird that has left the nest tunnel but still stays near perches, banks, ponds, fields, or village edges where adults continue to feed it. It makes short, uncertain flights and practices watching from a perch before lunging at insects, small aquatic animals, and lizards. Its plumage is duller and less polished than an adult’s, helping it blend while it learns. One notable challenge is mastering the plunge-and-grab technique without losing balance on takeoff or landing.
