Brimstone Moth
Opisthograptis luteolata

Geometrid moths are widespread in woodlands, meadows, gardens, and hedgerows, where adults often rest flattened against bark or leaves. Most are nocturnal or crepuscular, using mottled wing patterns as camouflage by day and flying to lights or flowers at night. Adults typically sip nectar or other liquids, while their caterpillars feed on plant foliage. The family is famous for its “inchworm” larvae, which loop along because they have fewer abdominal prolegs than many other caterpillars.
