Eurasian Nuthatch
Sitta europaea

A compact woodland bird found across Europe and temperate Asia, especially in mature deciduous and mixed forests, parks, and gardens. It climbs tree trunks and branches with remarkable agility, often moving headfirst downward while searching bark crevices for insects, spiders, seeds, and nuts. In autumn and winter it wedges hard seeds into cracks and hammers them open with its bill. A notable nesting habit is plastering mud around the nest-hole entrance to reduce its size and keep out larger intruders.
