Minute Tree-fungus Beetle
Cis boleti

This tiny beetle lives in hard bracket fungi and fungus-rotted wood, especially on dead or dying trees. Adults and larvae feed on fungal tissue, boring narrow galleries through the fruiting body as they grow. Its small size lets it vanish into pores and cracks, and its firm beetle wing cases give it useful protection in tight spaces. Cis boleti is often overlooked because an entire life cycle can unfold inside a single tree fungus.
