Large Pine Weevil
Hylobius abietis

The adult is a hard-bodied weevil found in conifer plantations, clear-felled forests, and areas with fresh stumps. It feeds on the bark of young pine and spruce seedlings, often girdling stems and causing serious forestry damage. Adults walk readily, can fly to new breeding sites, and may drop or play dead when disturbed. The long snout carries chewing mouthparts at the tip, a hallmark of weevils.
