Slaty-breasted Rail
Lewinia striata

A secretive rail of marshes, wet grassland, mangroves, and rice fields across South and Southeast Asia. It slips through dense vegetation on long legs, foraging for insects, worms, small mollusks, seeds, and other small foods near water. Rather than relying on strong flight, it usually freezes, skulks, or dashes into cover when disturbed. Its barred flanks and muted slaty chest help break up its outline among reeds and shadows.
