Common Eastern Bumble Bee
Bombus impatiens

Common Eastern Bumble Bees are widespread pollinators of meadows, gardens, farms, and woodland edges across eastern North America. Adults fly from flower to flower feeding on nectar while gathering pollen, using their fuzzy bodies to carry grains between blooms. They are social insects that nest in cavities such as abandoned rodent burrows, but an individual worker defends itself with a stinger when threatened. A notable trait is buzz pollination, in which rapid wing-muscle vibrations shake pollen loose from certain flowers.
