Tricolored Bat
Perimyotis subflavus

A tiny insect-eating bat of eastern North America, often found along forest edges, over streams, and near woodland openings. It hunts at night with slow, fluttering flight, using echolocation to pick moths, flies, beetles, and other small insects from the air. During winter it hibernates singly or in small numbers in caves and mines, where it is especially vulnerable to white-nose syndrome. Its common name comes from individual hairs that are dark at the base, pale in the middle, and darker at the tip.
