Cinnabar Moth Pupa
Tyria jacobaeae (pupa)

The pupa is usually hidden in a loose cocoon just below the soil surface or among leaf litter near its larval food plant. It does not feed, instead surviving on stored energy while the adult moth forms inside. Its main defenses are concealment, stillness, and a tough outer pupal case. This stage commonly overwinters, allowing the moth to emerge when conditions improve.
