Apple Blossom Weevil

Anthonomus pomorum

Apple Blossom Weevil

The adult is a small brown weevil found in orchards, hedgerows, and woodland edges where apple, pear, and related trees grow. It feeds on buds and leaves, while females use their long snout to place eggs into unopened blossom buds. Adults overwinter in bark crevices, leaf litter, or sheltered ground cover before emerging in spring. Its hard beetle wing-cases and habit of dropping from branches when disturbed make it difficult to spot.
