Bee Beetle
Trichodes apiarius

The adult is a bright red-and-dark checkered beetle often seen on sunny flowers, field edges, and warm woodland clearings. It feeds on pollen but also seizes small insects visiting the same flowers. Adults can fly between blossoms and use their hardened wing covers as protection when at rest. Its name reflects the larval habit of developing in bee nests and beehives rather than any close relation to bees.
