New Zealand Fur Seal
Arctocephalus forsteri

New Zealand fur seals live along rocky coasts, offshore islands, and cool temperate waters around New Zealand and southern Australia. They are agile swimmers that forage mostly at sea for fish, squid, octopus, and occasionally seabirds. On land they rest and breed in dense coastal colonies, where males defend space with lunges, bites, and loud threat calls. A notable diving hunter, this seal can make deep foraging dives and stay underwater for several minutes.
