Cougar
Puma concolor
Adult cougars inhabit mountains, forests, deserts, and scrublands across the Americas, using cover and terrain to approach prey unseen. They are solitary ambush predators that feed mainly on deer, but also take smaller mammals when available. Rather than long chases, they stalk carefully and finish attacks with a powerful pounce and bite. Despite their size, cougars cannot roar; they communicate with growls, hisses, purrs, and piercing screams.
