Common Bottlenose Dolphin
Tursiops truncatus

Common bottlenose dolphins live in warm and temperate seas worldwide, using coastal bays, estuaries, reefs, and offshore waters. They are agile marine predators that feed mainly on fish and squid, catching prey with rapid turns, bites, and coordinated hunting techniques. Their echolocation clicks help them navigate and locate prey in murky or deep water, while individual signature whistles are used for social contact. A notable adaptation is unihemispheric sleep, resting one half of the brain at a time so they can keep surfacing to breathe.
