Common Blue Damselfly
Enallagma cyathigerum

Common Blue Damselflies live around ponds, lakes, canals, and slow rivers, often resting on reeds and waterside vegetation. Adults hunt tiny flying insects, catching prey in the air and chewing it with small mandibles. They are agile fliers but often perch between short patrols, especially males guarding territories near water. A notable feature is the male’s bright blue-and-black pattern, while females are usually duller and may be greenish or brownish.
