Gila Monster
Heloderma suspectum

A heavy-bodied venomous lizard of the Sonoran, Mojave, and Chihuahuan desert regions, often found in rocky washes, scrub, and burrows. It moves slowly and spends much of its life sheltered underground, emerging mainly in mild spring weather or after rains. Its diet includes bird and reptile eggs, nestlings, small mammals, lizards, and carrion. Unlike a snake, it delivers venom through grooved teeth by holding on and chewing into the wound.
