Harris's Antelope Squirrel
Ammospermophilus harrisii

Harris's antelope squirrel is a small ground squirrel of the Sonoran Desert and nearby arid scrub, often seen around rocky washes, cactus flats, and desert grassland. It feeds on seeds, fruits, green plant parts, cactus material, insects, and occasional carrion, stuffing food into its cheek pouches to carry back toward shelter. Active even in intense heat, it often holds its bushy tail over its back like a parasol to reduce sun exposure. It escapes predators by sprinting to a burrow or crevice and giving sharp alarm calls from cover.
