Sonoran Desert Toad
Incilius alvarius

A large desert toad of the Sonoran region, often found near washes, temporary rain pools, and irrigated areas after summer storms. It spends dry periods hidden underground and emerges at night to feed on insects, spiders, small lizards, and even small mammals. When threatened, it can inflate its body and secrete powerful toxins from large parotoid glands behind the eyes. Its loud breeding calls gather around seasonal pools during the monsoon.
