Black Spiny-tailed Iguana
Ctenosaura similis

Adult black spiny-tailed iguanas inhabit hot, open habitats such as dry forests, rocky slopes, coastal scrub, and human-made stone structures. They are mainly herbivorous, eating leaves, flowers, and fruit, but may also take insects, eggs, and small vertebrates. Adults defend themselves with powerful jaws, sharp claws, and a rigid spiny tail used as a whip. Males perform head-bobs and push-up displays during territorial and breeding interactions.
