European Hare
Lepus europaeus

Adult European hares live in open farmland, grassland, steppe, and field edges, resting in shallow scrapes rather than underground burrows. They are mostly crepuscular and nocturnal, grazing on grasses, herbs, crops, bark, and shoots. When threatened, they rely on explosive speed, long leaps, and zigzag running across open ground. In the breeding season, hares famously box with their forelegs, often during courtship contests.
