Autumn Meadowhawk
Sympetrum vicinum
The adult is a small meadowhawk dragonfly often seen around ponds, wetlands, and sunny fields in late summer and autumn. It hunts flying insects on the wing, using quick turns and spiny legs to intercept prey in midair. This species is known for flying late in the season, sometimes remaining active after many other dragonflies have disappeared.
