Common House Martin
Delichon urbicum

The adult Common House Martin is a small migratory swallow that breeds around towns, villages, bridges, and cliffs, especially where mud for nest-building is nearby. It feeds almost entirely on flying insects caught in agile, sweeping flight over fields, water, and rooftops. Adults defend nest sites with alarm calls, close passes, and rapid aerial manoeuvres. A notable fact is that many travel thousands of kilometres between Eurasian breeding grounds and African wintering areas.
