Plateau Fence Lizard
Sceloporus tristichus

A small, agile lizard of the Colorado Plateau and nearby rocky woodlands, often seen basking on boulders, logs, and fence posts. It darts quickly into cracks, shrubs, or under cover when threatened, relying on speed and alertness more than brute force. Its diet is mainly small insects and other arthropods, including ants, beetles, grasshoppers, and spiders. Males are notable for bright blue belly patches and push-up displays used in territorial and courtship behavior.
