European Beewolf
Philanthus triangulum

The adult European beewolf is a solitary digger wasp found in warm, sandy habitats such as heathland, dunes, paths, and open banks. Females hunt honeybees, sting them to paralyze them, and carry them to underground nest chambers for their larvae. Adults also visit flowers for nectar, while males hold small territories and display to passing females. One notable fact is that females use chemical secretions in the nest environment to help protect their brood from harmful microbes.
