Adonis Ladybird
Hippodamia variegata

The adult Adonis ladybird is a small spotted beetle found in grasslands, crop edges, gardens, and disturbed open habitats across much of Europe, Asia, and introduced regions. It feeds mainly on aphids and other small plant pests, making it an important natural enemy in agricultural systems. When threatened, it can release bitter alkaloid-rich fluid from its leg joints, and its bright red-orange warning colors advertise this bad taste. Unlike the larva and pupa, the adult can fly between host plants to find new prey patches and mates.
