Little Black Ant
Monomorium carbonarium

Adult little black ants are tiny dark workers that nest in soil, under rocks, in decaying wood, and sometimes inside buildings. They forage for sweets, grease, seeds, honeydew, and dead or small soft-bodied insects, using their jaws to handle food and defend themselves. Individuals are quick ground runners that follow scent trails between nest entrances and food sources. A notable fact is that colonies can have multiple queens, allowing a nest to expand rapidly when conditions are favorable.
