Brimstone Caterpillar
Gonepteryx rhamni (caterpillar)
A green, leaf-matching larva found on buckthorn and alder buckthorn in hedgerows, woodland edges, and scrub. It feeds on young leaves and often rests along the leaf midrib, where its color and posture make it hard to spot. Rather than fighting actively, it relies on stillness, camouflage, and its small chewing jaws. This stage stores energy quickly before pupating into a suspended chrysalis.
